Weekday School Matinees

Cardinal for Schools

Cardinal Stage offers special weekday matinees for specific shows throughout the season as part of our Cardinal For Schools program. This program significantly reduces the cost of admission so that school children can attend these performances, making them affordable for students and teachers. To accompany the performances, Cardinal Stage creates education materials for teachers, specifically designed to meet curricular standards for the age group. These study guides are created by Cardinal Stage’s Education Committee, which includes local educators and the Monroe County Public Library.

 

THE GREAT GATSBY

ABOUT THE PLAY
The breathtaking glamour and decadent excess of the Jazz Age come to the stage in Simon Levy’s adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic novel. Nick Carraway finds himself drawn into the dazzling world of flappers, bootleggers and a mysterious man named Jay Gatsby. But beneath all the romance is a harsh reality that cannot be escaped, no matter how hard Gatsby may struggle to row against the current of his past.

This fall, the beloved children’s classic Charlotte’s Web returns to Cardinal Stage! When a girl named Fern saves a little pig named Wilbur, she opens the door to a world of friendship and adventure. Together with the help of the wise Charlotte, the Gander, the Goslings and even the sneaky Templeton, Wilbur and Fern show the farm and the world just how extraordinary an ordinary pig can be!

DISNEY’S NEWSIES

ABOUT THE PLAY
Inspired by the real-life Newsboy Strike of 1899, Newsies is a high-energy musical that soars with rousing dance numbers and memorable songs. When New York publishing titans Joseph Pulitzer and William Randolph Hearst try to increase their profits by taking advantage of hard-working newsboys, the charismatic Jack Kelly steps up to lead a band of young “newsies” to strike for what’s right. This Tony Award-winning musical, based on the popular Disney film, is toe-tapping fun for the entire family!
